Earlier in the month we introduced you to our latest project car, a 1966 Ford Econoline freshly imported from the US of A. The brief here wasn’t to build some slammed, super-wide show monster. Instead, we wanted to focus on a simple but well executed restoration… with a few tweaks thrown in for good measure!

After a hectic few weeks, 150+ cups of tea and a good dose of pin-striping we’re massively excited to say the Econoline is ready, and just in time for Goodwood Revival 2017. This isn’t a coincidence, either. The Meguiar’s Econoline is perfectly tailored for this event which takes everyone back to the ‘good old days’. From the cars and stands right through to the dress attire and food menu, everything remains period correct here.

But that’s enough about the show, let’s take a closer look at just how the Econoline came together…

First things first was the paint. After weeks of prep from the guys at Reflex Autodesign, the Econoline was ready for several coats of a special colour to mimic that of our new Mirror Bright range. This also included a black gloss roof  to tie-in with the bumper, steel wheels, mirrors and more. The end result? Nothing short of jaw-dropping!

Next up was the pin-striping. Classic restoration requires a classic skill, and they don’t come any better than Nefarious Pin-Striping, a team we’ve used in the past with our Polish Interceptor project with outstanding results. Watching Nefarious do his thing is mesmerizing, and proper hand-applied pin-striping just cannot be matched by vinyl.

The final piece of the puzzle was to get the Econoline all bolted up and ready for action. Admittedly back in 1966 cars weren’t particularly complex, but with the Econoline expected to rack up thousands of miles every year it was down to the guys at Prep ‘N’ Lay to ensure the engine, gearbox and drivetrain all performed faultlessly.

After a quick test run to a local Earl’s Barton meet the Econoline was ready for its grand unveiling at Goodwood Revival, and even though the heavens opened it didn’t dampen spirits at glorious Goodwood – if anything it just showcased the beading Meguiar’s products delivers!
