The jewel in the crown of the 2015 Meguiar’s SEMA show booth was Jack Kiely’s stunning 1940 Mercury, built by Rob Ida Concepts. The Ford Motor Co. agreed, and awarded the car 2015 best of show.

Built using a 1940 Mercury Business Coupe as a base, Rob Ida sculpted bespoke bodywork from scratch to create a unique streamliner design.

The build began in 2008 and started with the removal of the roof from the original car. Rob then crafted a steel skeleton which supported the new hand built roof. Likewise the rear end is all hand crafted to fit with the streamlined shape. The result is a beautifully flowing body style, accentuated with hand made brightwork.

But the custom work does not stop there, the wheel wells are also skirted, door openings reversed and the dash board is hand built. Inside the same caramel leather covers matching luggage, seats and even extends to the engine bay detailing.

A 660bhp supercharged Ford Mustang GT500 motor sits under the hood and custom machined rocker covers make the modern power plant fit with the period of the rest of the vehicle perfectly.

With the power to match the stunning looks, it looks likely that Jack Kiely’s Mercury will pick up even more silverware through 2015.
