OCD 964 - Greg Howell's immaculate Porsche gets the Meguiar's treatment
We get all kinds of vehicles in the Meguiar’s detailing bay, from cult classics and custom builds right through to the latest supercars in need of some love. But every now and then something truly spectacular takes pride of place in the Meguiar’s bay, and last week Greg Howell brought down his ‘OCD 964’ – one of the most comprehensive, immaculate and intensive Porsche builds we’ve ever seen!
Given the nature of the build, and Greg being a professional car painter by trade, it was incredible difficult to get any ‘before’ images of the car itself due to the condition it arrived in. But Greg is a perfectionist, and the aim of today’s trip was to get rid of as many of the fine swirls and light scratches as possible – most of which were caused purely from wiping dust off the car and the plastic protective sheeting the Porsche sits under. Having tried various other products previous Greg was still really struggling to remove these last remaining swirls and scratches…
To see what would work best, we tried a few different products on a single panel initially. This allowed us to determine that a three-step process would be best on the paint, first by using the DA Microfibre Cutting Compound followed by Meguiar’s Ultra Finishing Polish and finally Meguiar’s Ultimate Wax for paint protection.
The Microfibre pad and Cutting Compound applied with our DA system offered the most effective and quickest level of swirl/scratch removal. Once we had removed the scratches and swirls, we then applied the Meguiar’s M205 Ultra Finishing Polish to the paint. We specifically used this product because of the colour of the car. The Ultra Finishing Polish contains polishing oils which added a deep rich gloss, superb reflections and really made the paint pop. As well as containing a large amount of polishing oils the Ultra Finishing Polish contains a small amount of cut to remove any light swirls. Finally we applied Ultimate Wax to seal in the Ultra Finishing Polish and protect the paint from the elements.
We used the DA Polisher to apply all three products to the paint. A Meguiar’s Polishing Pad is the best way to apply the M205 and a Meguiar’s Finishing Pad is used to apply the Ultimate Wax. Microfibre Towels are used to remove any product residue after each application.
Greg could not believe the cut of the Microfibre System on a DA Polisher and has most definitely been converted to using both! Greg loved the fact that this product cut paint so quickly and effectively, so much so that he plans to use this on his customers cars – something we look forward to hearing (and seeing) in the not too distant future.
